Former Gold Cup & Saucer Consolation winner Nuttin But Finesse headlines the Monday afternoon feature on a special Labour Day card at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
The holiday program has 15 dashes scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. (ADT) opening post time with the $5,250 high-end conditioned class lining up in race 14.
Nuttin But Finesse will leave from post four with Mike Downey in the seat for trainer Ellen Stevenson and owner Dr. Mitchell Downey of Saint John, N.B. The eight-year-old son of Art Major was fourth in his Gold Cup & Saucer trial this year before finishing sixth in the $30,000 James Roach MacGregor Gold Cup & Saucer Consolation. The 41-time winner was victorious in the MacGregor Memorial in 2025.
He will face Starship Glyde from the outside post five with Paul Langille driving for trainer Earl Watts and owner Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I. The six-year-old Control The Moment gelding is riding a two-race win streak after victories of 1:51.4 and 1:53.1 at Red Shores Charlottetown.
Sauble Attack has rail control with Ken Murphy driving for trainer Paul Biggar and co-owner Donald Callbeck of Summerside, P.E.I.
Doc Awesome will leave from post three after winning the feature class as the favourite in 1:55.1 last week for driver David Dowling and trainer Darla MacEachern, who also co-owns alongside Allen Gaudet and Mike Cameron of Summerside, P.E.I.
Middleton Terror, to be driven by Jason Hughes, has post two from the Luke Burke barn for owners Frank Balcom of Albany, P.E.I., and Kingsley Walsh of Amherst, N.S.
Nuttin But Finesse is the morning line favourite at 5-2 followed by Starship Glyde at 3-1 and Sauble Attack at 7-2.
The "Backstretch Beat" sides with Nuttin But Finesse: “Nuttin But Finesse spent August battling some of the best pacers on the Eastern Seaboard and now lands in a spot where he should be able to control his own destiny. Starship Glyde is razor sharp, but we think the class relief makes Nuttin But Finesse the one to beat.”
Race five is the Garth Schurman Memorial with Tymal Miami (Corey MacPherson) as the favourite with post four for trainer Kevin MacLean. The Keith Campbell Memorial in race seven has Miss Countour (Mike Downey) from the Ellen Stevenson barn as the top selection from post five.
