The points leader in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots among three-year-old filly trotters, Oceanview Rumours cemented her status as the alpha female during stakes action on Saturday, Sept. 6 at Hanover Raceway.
Three $25,000 divisions were contested on the afternoon, with Oceanview Rumours ($3.30) completing her assignment faster than any of the fillies entered. Bob McClure placed the favourite on top from post five and played a fun game of catch me if you can through fractions of :29.4, 1:00.2 and 1:30.1 before closing in :30.1 for the 2:00.2 score. The winners surely had more fun with that game than runner-up Incantation (Trevor Henry), back 2-1/2 lengths, and show horse Lily Lace (Travis Henry).
Now a five-time winner this year in 12 starts and a 12-time winner in her career from 21 starts, Oceanview Rumours (Green Manalishi S - Tyne Valley) is trained by Shane Arsenault for breeder-owners William & Scott Roloson, Belfast, P.E.I and co-owner Joey Aylward, St. Louis, P.E.I.
Second in the point standings, The Green Book ($7.60) also delivered in gate-to-wire fashion in her division as Trevor Henry stole a middle half in 1:04.1 to hold off a late bid from favoured Medley Seelster (McClure) by half a length for the 2:05.1 decision. Js Shesrealspecial (Daryl Thiessen) finished best of the rest in third.
Shannon Henry trains The Green Book (Green Manalishi S - Classic Belle) for owners Bill Manes of Rockwood and Trevor Henry Stables Inc. of Arthur, Ont. Now a four-time winner this year and in her 14-start career, The Green Book sports $74,186 in purse earnings.
Shesamanalishi ($5.30) might not have the points accrued by her divisional rivals but her form looks like she's a late season threat. Clearing to the lead through a 1:01.3 half in her split, Shesamanalishi and driver McClure repelled a stout backhalf challenge from Show Me The Green (Thiessen) to win in 2:01.1. Hadley (Trevor Henry) was next best, 2-1/2 lengths back with Show Me The Green staying for the show dough.
Notching her first Grassroots victory, Shesamanalishi (Green Manalishi - In Triplicate) provided her sire with a sweep of the Grassroots divisions. The two-time winner with more than $48,000 earned is trained by Lyle MacArthur for owners Linda Wellwood of St. George Brant, Tammy Aspden of Caistor Centre and Murray Neilson of London, Ont.
Karma Plus (2:04.3; $4.80) prevailed in the $6,000 Pete & Jean Thibaudeau Memorial Trot for driver Bob McClure, trainer Adrian Hickey and owner James Edward Lewis of Angus, Ont.
The $6,000 Shirley Panos Memorial Pace was captured by Rose Run Vortex (1:57; $25.50) for driver Jason Ryan and owner-trainer Terry Gallant of Rockwood, Ont.
