David Dowling enjoyed a solid Saturday night at Sudbury Downs as he made his way to the winner’s circle five times on the 11-race card
, and one of those wins came in a division of the Young Guns Series with Matou Rose.
In the first of two $8,500 divisions of the series’ third leg, Matou Rose prevailed in wire-to-wire fashion in 1:56.1. The three-year-old altered son of Pearl River Matt-D Gs Pokemon finished three lengths ahead of the pocket-sitter, Names Fame (Jay Polifroni) while Doc Beatz Em All (Paul MacLean) rounded out the top three.
Jean Noel Leblanc owns and trains Matou Rose, a winner of two races in 15 seasonal starts. His fourth lifetime victory bumped his earnings to $28,566.
Dowling scored back-to-back wins with his own pupils Winsmith Bliss (2:02.1) in Race 3 and Tenerife (1:59.1) in Race 4. The resident of Parry Sound, Ont. was also victorious with the Mike Lamoureux-trained Ms Fun (1:59) in Race 9 and Righteous Raider (1:59.1), conditioned by James Stewart, in Race 11. Dowling has recorded 69 wins so far this year earning over $300,000 in purses. Over the course of his career, Dowling has driven 554 winners earning over $2.9 million.
In the second Young Guns split, Enlightened Cam and Paul MacLean converted a pocket trip into a three length score over pacesetter Ari S (Mike MacNeill) and Threestepstoheaven (David Dowling). The three-year-old E Dees Cam-Western Goddess colt stopped the clock in 1:56.4.
MacLean also shares ownership of the first leg winner with Gerry Gauthier of Azilda, Ont. Trained by France MacLean, Enlightened Cam has won five races in 16 outings this year and six races lifetime giving him a total of $28,794 in earnings.
