Guy Gagnon thrived on the 10-race card at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday night (Sept. 4), driving five winners including four from his own barn — one of which took the evening's featured $10,500 Preferred Handicap Pace.
The Light Speed returned to the winner's circle in Rideau's top class with a 1:52.4 powerhouse performance. Gagnon sent the four-year-old Moon Beam gelding for the lead to a :27.3 first quarter and parked first-over Day Delight through middle fractions of :56.3 and 1:24.2. The Light Speed then kicked for home to win by 1-1/4 lengths as the 1-9 favourite over Hes Got A Vendetta with St Lads Cash third and second-over Flash Cube finishing fourth.
A homebred for Michel Nolette, The Light Speed won his 26th race from 61 starts and has now earned $183,354. He paid $2.10 to win.
Gagnon's other wins came with his trainees Notaword N (timed in 1:54.2, $3.70 to win), Make It Come True (1:53, $6.70) and Cutting Class (1:52, $4.10). His lone driving win for another barn on the night came with Rollin With Rock (1:54.4, $6.10).
