Despite mid-race traffic trouble, Brian O'Donnell's Eastview Dexter ($14.60) proved best of all in the featured winners-over pace on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 5) at Northside Downs.

Eastview Dexter and driver Mark Pezzarello rode the pocket behind pacesetter Johnnie Jack (Gregory Sparling) through a :28.1 first quarter, but found themselves mired in traffic as a live outer flow formed behind Runaway Mystery (Harold LeBlanc) into a :59.1 half. On the second circuit, Pezzarello was able to work Eastview Dexter free, angling out after Johnnie Jack dismissed of Runaway Mystery's challenge. Once free off the home turn, Eastview Dexter gobbled up ground willingly and collared Johnnie Jack to win by a half length in 1:58.4. Intended Royalty (Ryan Campbell) overcame stalled cover to narrowly claim third as the 1-4 favourite.

Eastview Dexter, who is now a 24-time winner, recorded his second straight Northside win and his third of the campaign.
