Beach Moment First In Prospect; Accident Forces No Contest

Kicking off cover into the final turn, Beach Moment edged past pacesetter Got Sexy Scars in the final strides to win the $7,100 fourth preliminary of the Prospect Series Two-Year-Old Filly Pace on Saturday (Sept. 5) at Kawartha Downs.

Got Sexy Scars, the 4-5 favourite, led uncontested through early fractions of :28 and :57.4. A La Mode Seelster angled first over from third moving into the backstretch with Beach Moment in tow marching towards three-quarters in 1:27.2. Into the final turn A La Mode Seelster started to tire, prompting Beach Moment three wide as Got Sexy Scars scooted to a near-three-length lead into the stretch. But the Blake MacIntosh-trained Control The Moment filly gathered momentum and landed a neck in front to win in 1:57.2. Lets Roar closed for third.

Owned by Hutt Racing Stable, Mortgage Boys Stable and Blake MacIntosh, Beach Moment won her first race from six starts, earning $5,802. James Gillespie drove the $3.80 winner.

Earlier in the card—in the afternoon’s third race—a horse fell coming off of the first turn. Kawartha Downs provided Trot Insider information concerning the incident.

"Just after the start going into the first turn the horse choked and went down," Kawartha's Jim Huck said. "The horse was not able to get up right away resulting in the race being declared a no contest. Despite a few scrapes both horse and driver were okay."
