Running Aces’ Tuesday night (Sept. 4) program of live action featured a $14,000 Minnesota-Sired trotting race, which housed a full field of nine competitors.

MD Magic (who was driven by Dean Magee) was looking for his sixth straight win in the class and was sent off as the 4-5 post-time choice. Deweys Machine (Steve Wiseman) had recorded five second-place finishes heading into the tilt and was also heavily backed at 8-5.

Z Machine (James Yoder) was fastest off the gate and led the field through the early quarter in :29.1 before MD Magic cleared to the lead from Post 9 and controlled the fractions through the middle stages of the contest.

MD Magic was held sway past the half (1:00) and three-quarters (1:30.3), but Deweys Machine had advanced from fourth to drop into the pocket around the final turn.

As the field rounded for home, Deweys Machine was ready to engage the leader, and the result was a thrilling stretch battle between the grounds’ top two freshman trotters this season. Deweys Machine got up in the final strides to take the victory by three quarters of a length in 2:00.3 over the ‘sloppy’ track.

The victory was win No. 3 from nine career starts for the gelded son of Ice Machine, who is out of the Deweycheatumnhowe mare Deweys Splendour. Deweys Machine ($5.40) is owned and trained by Justin Anfinson.

Trinitysfancyfilly (Brian Detgen) took top honours in the $8,500 Minnesota-Sired Two-Year-Old Filly Pace, as the 2:00 performance went down as a maiden-breaking win. Burning Blaze (Steve Wiseman) turned in another dominating win in the $8,500 Minnesota-Sired Two-Year-Old Colt & Gelding Pace, as he recorded a gate-to-wire, 1:56.4 victory. Driver Steve Wiseman led the program with four wins, while Rick Magee turned in a hat-trick and Lemoyne Svendsen completed a double.

Live racing will return to Running Aces this Saturday night (Sept. 8) with first post at 6:00 p.m. (CDT). The card will feature two carryovers: the 20-cent Jackpot Pick-5 carryover is $35,189.98 and the 50-cent Hi-5 Carryover is $2,255,52.
