Two-year-old Ponder filly Undefiable turned some heads early last month when she paced to a 1:52.2 win in a preliminary leg of the Whenuwishuponastar at Woodbine Mohawk Park. After having experienced a few hiccups since, the homebred of Bob McIntosh returned to the Campbellville, Ont. oval Tuesday morning (Sept. 4) for a tune up.
Woodbine Mohawk Park played host to a compact, four-race qualifying session on Tuesday, and Undefiable lined up in Post 1 for the second dash on the docket.
Trevor Henry was in the bike behind Undefiable, who had been a vet’s scratch (sick) out of the Whenuwishuponastar final. The brown filly was coming into the Tuesday qualifier after having broken stride in a Pennsylvania Sire Stakes event at the Meadows on August 18.
The career winner of two of five races found herself in the two-hole early during her Tuesday qualifier, and she sat the pocket through the :29 opening panel and :59.3 half.
Henry put Undefiable to work on the final turn, as the duo raced first-up and were overland on the lead as they clicked off the three-quarters station in 1:28.4.
The early pacesetter, Cassius (driven by Jonathan Drury), was not ready to just give in, though, as the two-year-old gelding fought back to lead by a length at the head of the lane.
Undefiable had more late, though, as Henry was able to get up in the homestretch and eventually post a three-quarters-of-one-length victory in 1:57.
Undefiable is a homebred of Robert McIntosh Stables Inc. (of Windsor, Ont.), C S X Stables (Liberty Center, Ohio) and Dave Boyle (Bowmanville, Ont.)
