Paul MacKenzie mapped out the winning trip for Michelangelo, who led the field through fractions of :28.4, :59.2 and 1:28.1 before cruising home in a :30-second clip en route to the one-length score over Tag Up And Go. Justasmalltowngirl was third.
Chelsea Knapp of Brockville, Ontario owns and trains the five-year-old son of Angus Hall-Elegant Victory. The gelding now boasts an impressive record of 10-10-0 from 26 starts this season. He boosted his earnings to $129,406 with the win.
Lexis D J used the same tactical approach to win the $7,000 Preferred 3 Trot for driver Scott Coulter and owner/trainer Scott Arsenault of Freelton, Ontario The gelding was the leader through intervals of :29, :59.1 and 1:29.1 before finishing off his foes with a :29.4 kicker. He won by 2-1/2 lengths over Igottokeeponmoving in 1:59, with Tornado Tim finishing third.
Sent off as the 9-5 favourite, the seven-year-old son of Amigo Hall-Lexus Lulu won for the second time this season and for the 28th time in his career. The trotter’s lifetime earnings climbed to $353,792 with the win.
