Live racing continued Sunday, Sept. 3 at Truro Raceway, with The Yinyang and Kyle Desroche turning in a dominant performance to claim the 2023 Gamester-Pinkney Memorial Rookie Cup final.
Desroche put The Yinyang into play early in the mile leaving from post three, vying for the front-end parked out in third as Tuckers Best and Zachary Mullins led to the opening quarter in :29. Desroche found a hole in third for The Yinyang while the pace slowed drastically in the second quarter as Tuckers Best took the field of eight to the half in 1:01. Desroche was not content to keep The Yinyang in the hole for long, tipping just beyond the halfway point to power first over and join Tuckers Best on the lead at three-quarters in 1:31.1.
The Yinyang powered to the front with a menacing move on the final turn, turning for home with a four-length lead on the field at the top of the stretch. The Yinyang was far from finished at the top of the lane, surging home in :29 to extend his lead to over 12 lengths on the line and score the victory in 2:00.1. Atufflittleguy and Jaycob Sweet rallied for second, with Love In Paradise and Kyle Mason finishing third.
The victory was the first in 13 seasonal outings for the David Settle-trained The Yinyang, who has now banked $21,619 for his career. The victory was the ninth lifetime win for the five-year-old gelded son of Thinking Out Loud-Rockin Alice, and provided driver Kyle Desroche his fourth career victory in 36 career drives.
