Navalny scored in the featured pace at Charlottetown Driving Park on Saturday night (Sept. 3).
The Melissa Rennie trainee sat second in the $3,300 Preferred 2 Pace while pacesetter Fern Hill General cut fractions of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.2. Navalny fired in the final quarter to win by one length in 1:55.3 for owners Dale and Ronnie Rennie of Elmsdale. Moonwriter was second with Fern Hill General third. Adam Merner drove the winner.
Merner also won with the Jamie Smith trained Brumby (1:55.1) and with Ladylike (1:54.3) for trainer Colin Johnson. Red Shores and Standardbred Canada also honoured caretakers on the card during National Caretaker Appreciation Day.
Mark Bradley had a driving triple on the program as the Charlottetown native now sits six wins shy of the 1,000-win plateau. Bradley steered Buddysvirgins to a 1:57.1 victory for trainer Tom Weatherbie and also won with Check Your Source in 1:56.2 for trainer Mike McGuigan and with Smart Official in 1:56.2 for trainer Saul Lanigan. Lanigan had a pair of victories as driver Murphy opened the program winning with Melanies Magic in 1:56.3.
Live racing continues Monday afternoon (Sept. 5) at 1 p.m. (ADT) for a special Labour Day program at Red Shores Summerside.
