When you wind up being a $260,000 purchase as a yearling you fall into the ‘worth waiting on’ category, and in the case of pacer Enavant he certainly was worth waiting on.
Unraced at ages two and three, the robust son of Somebeachsomewhere-Lady Be Great has now made eight starts as a four-year-old and all eight of them have turned out to be winning ones.
After seven consecutive scores at Hippodrome 3R for trainer Maxime Velaye, Enavant tried his luck in a $16,000 conditioned event Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park. He passed that test with flying colours.
Bob McClure was in no hurry with Enavant, who got away eighth in the nine-horse affair. After chasing fractions of :27.1, :55.4 and 1:24 set by Mcwicked One, McClure got his charge into the flow before tipping wide for the stretch drive and then kicking home in :27 to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Devil Or Angel in 1:52.2. Caviart Val was third.
Sent off as the 2-5 favourite, Enavant kept his perfect record intact for Quebec partners Determination of Montreal and Guy Corbeil of Mirabel. The gelding has now banked just shy of $20,000 to date.
