Canada's leading driver and trainer teamed up to win $8,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap featured on Wednesday night at Grand River Raceway with three-year-old pacing filly Medoland Lindeylou.
Medoland Lindeylou raced to the lead from post three and turned back first over challenger Windsun Kenda past three-quarters en route to the 1:55.1 triumph. The favourite paid $4.60 to win. Insincerity finished two and three-quarter lengths behind, edging out pocket-sitter Shellace for the runner-up honours. Last week's winner, another sophomore filly Private Performanc, rallied wide from the backfield to finish fourth.
Trevor Henry drove the Stonebridge Regal-Jodie Lynne Tup filly, who entered the race off four straight Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots starts in which she hit the board twice. The win was Medoland Lindeylou's second in 14 starts this year and lifted her earnings over $26,000.
The bay filly, a four-time career winner with $86,746 earned, hails from the Richard Moreau stable and she is owned by Ohio breeder Tamara Hoovler and partners Dr. Robert Hutchison and Dr. Randall Hutchison.
