Mr Jeter was the sale topper at the 2024 Alberta Standardbred Horse Association (ASHA) Yearling Sale held on Sunday, Sept. 29 at Century Mile Racetrack and Casino.
Selling as Hip 22 from the Surdale Farms consignment, Mr Jeter sold for $90,000 to top the day's bidding action. Kelly Hoerdt of Alberta was the top bidder on the Custard The Dragon-N Y Yankees colt, who is a full sibling to B.C. Breeders Stakes champions Joe Dimagio ($218,480 - 1:52.2f) and Mickie Mantle ($254,291 - 1:51.2f).
Among the top sellers, Dayo Dayo, Hip 66, was purchased for $78,000 by D & F Gilbert - Lancaster, based regionally in Manitoba and Alberta. Consigned by Jordan Cook, the Captain Deo gelding out of 2013 Northlands Filly Pace champion Contesta Hanover is a half-sibling to Alberta stakes competitors Over The Horizon ($190,790 - 1:52.1f) and Custards Crown ($93,132 - 1:54.2e).
Custard Again, Hip 77, rounded out the top three highest priced yearlings sold, with Alberta's Brandon Campbell the winning bidder at $68,000. Also consigned by Surdale Farms, the Custard The Dragon-Encore Deo colt is a half-brother to Greg The Leg ($430,996 - 1:51.4h), Docdor Mickey ($110,498 - 1:53.1f) and Euro Step ($57,300 - 1:55h).
ASHA has reported a total of 61 yearlings were sold for $1,387,700 (excluding buybacks), marking a 15.5 per cent increase in gross sales over last year’s auction that had 50 yearlings and establishing a new record for ASHA and Western Canada yearling sales. The average price of $22,749 was down 5.3 per cent.
