Malignity Headlines Summerside's Sunday Stakes

Malignity has shown no signs of slowing down as he heads to Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway to headline a mega-stakes afternoon on Sunday, Oct. 1.

The all-stakes Sunday has a 1 p.m. opening post time for the 14-dash event featuring the Joe O’Brien Memorial Stakes for three-year-old pacing colts, the Lady Slipper Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies as well as the Lady Slipper for two and three-year-old trotters. The Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series also has two splits on the day. 

Malignity leaves from the rail in his $23,800 Joe O’Brien Memorial Gold division in Race 10 for three-year-old pacing colts while riding an eight-race win streak for trainer-driver Paul Langille. The son of Malicious is fresh off a 14-length romp in the mud at Inverness Raceway on Sept. 17. 

The other $23,800 O’Brien Gold division is in Race 12 and Bacononabiscuit is the classifier’s choice from post three with David Dowling in the seat for trainer Stacey Darrach. 

Race 2 is the lone O’Brien Grassroots division for three-year-old pacing colts with $11,900 on the line. 

Race 9 starts off Lady Slipper Gold action for three-year-old pacing fillies with a $18,700 pot. Our Girl Annie is favoured in that dash with Gilles Barrieau picking up the drive for trainer Eddy Doucette from post three. 

Race 11 is another $18,700 Lady Slipper Gold split as Stonecold Girl (Dowling) gets top billing with post three. 

The final Lady Slipper Gold dash is in the Race 14 finale as Saulsbrook Abbey look to add to her six seasonal wins from post one for driver Jason Hughes and trainer Saul Lanigan. 

The first $9,350 Lady Slipper Grassroots division for three-year-old pacing fillies is in Race 3 followed by another division in Race 6. 

The Lady Slipper Stakes for trotters begin in Race 1 with a $14,500 division for two-year-old fillies as Dusty Lane Wee (David Dowling) is the top choice. 

Race 4 is a three-year-old trot filly division headlined by the renewed rivalry between Camco Erin (Mike McGuigan) from post one and Gettin Salty (Hughes) with post two. 

The three-year-old trotting colts have a $14,300 showdown in Race 5 as Irish Ray looks to extend his undefeated career to 18 with Barrieau in the bike. 

Race 7 has the Lady Slipper Stake for two-year-old trotting colts as Rocket Blast (Corey MacPherson) is selected to win from the Carl Bagnall barn. 

The Atlantic Aged Pacing Mares Series, presented by Standardbred Canada, has divisions in Races 8 and 13.
