Kawartha Downs wrapped up its 2019 season Saturday evening, and one guy who will be sad to see the facility closing up for the year is trainer John MacMillan.
A three-win performance was turned in by MacMillan on the 10-race card, and he got the ball rolling in Race 2 with Music Note who went wire-to-wire for driver Reg Gassien in 1:56.4.
MacMillan also clicked with Little Clayt (1:55.4) in Race 8 and then with Vanilla Malted (1:54.3) in Race 9.
The productive night at the office helped MacMillan’s win total climb to 42 this season while bumping his yearly earnings to $163,459.
To date, he’s racked up 1,558 training wins and purse earnings of close to $9 million.
MacMillan was presented a gift certificate for taking top training honours for the meet, as was leading driver Reg Gassien.
Eleven-year-old mare Rustys Flying captured her 20th seasonal win, tops in North America this year.
On the tarmac, a number of giveaways took place on the closing night card, including a 65-inch television. Additionally, Doug Hamilton provided live music for the healthy on-track crowd.
