David Miller drove Tight Pants to the lead at the quarter-mile mark and remained in front to the finish in a record 1:58.1 to win the $35,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Green Acres Division Championship for two-year-old trotting fillies Wednesday at Freehold Raceway.
The filly’s winning time erased the previous mark of 1:59.2 by Ticket To Glide in 2004.
It was the fourth consecutive victory in only seven starts this year for the trotting daughter of Muscles Yankee-Soutaine Hanover. The Richard (Nifty) Norman-trainee had won two preliminary rounds of Green Acres competition, as well as the $59,000 Marion Dancer Trot for NJ-sired two-year-old fillies.
Finishing 2 ¼ lengths back in second was Sheer Glide (Yankee Glide-Alix Hall). Woodshopper (Muscles Yankee-Woodwork) was third.
The winner's share of the purse boosted Tight Pants’ earnings to $64,830 for owners David H. McDuffee of Delray Beach, FL, Herb A. Liverman of Miami Beach, FL, and Melvin Hartman of Ontario, Canada.
