Woodbine Mohawk Park played host to the fifth and final leg of Ontario Sires Stakes Gold for three-year-old colt and gelding pacers where Beau Jangles held up his end of the bargain to best nine foes and score as the 1-20 favourite in the $150,000 Monday (Sept. 28) feature.
Away from post four, driver James MacDonald opted to allow the dust to settle moving into the first turn, sitting third with Beau Jangles while Borderline Mobby (Louis-Philippe Roy) set the tone early with a :27.2 opening panel. Beau Jangles angled off the cones on the backstretch, moving alongside Borderline Mobby before crossing over in charge of the field through a moderate half of :56. It was a three horse breakaway up front moving onto the final turn, with Beau Jangles chased by Borderline Mobby and Mega Moves (Mark MacDonald) in third as the favourite reached three-quarters in 1:23.3.
Spinning for home, the sprint to the wire commenced with Beau Jangles shifting gears and Borderline Mobby taking a peek to the outside from second. Sprinting home in :26, Beau Jangles held serve on the front end, holding Borderline Mobby at bay by three parts of a length in 1:49.3. Mega Moves held for the show spot, nine lengths back of the winner.
Trained by Dr. Ian Moore, Beau Jangles has won five of 12 now for her sophomore campaign. The reigning Horse of the Year is owned by Graham Grace Stable LLC of Clifton, Va., Kiwi Stables LLC of La Plata, Md., and Bolton Stables of Clermont, Fl.. The Cattlewash-Mrs Major Hill colt has banked $438,907 on the season, and $2,127,657 lifetime following his 17th career victory in 24 tries. Beau Jangles paid $2.10 to win as the heavy chalk.
Beau Jangles was bred by Tara Hills Stud and serves as points leader in the division, scoring wins in three of five legs of Ontario Sires Stakes Gold competition. The Ontario Sires Stakes Gold Super Finals are slated for Saturday, Oct. 10 at Woodbine Mohawk Park. Before Beau Jangles races in the Super Final, trainer Dr. Ian Moore did indicate the colt's next start will come this weekend in stakes action at The Red Mile.
