Unbeaten Boogie Panic, despite having to start from the second tier in post nine, made a valiant first-over move to the lead and then scored his sixth straight harness racing victory Sunday at the Hippodrome 3R.
The bulky field of nine pacers in the featured 10th race got away and Boogie Panic with driver Denis St Pierre was in seventh place on the outside as Magic Touch Cybele and driver Pascal Berube took the early lead away from B D Levrard (Stephane Brosseau) by the opening quarter-mile in :27.3.
Magic Touch Cybele then led the field to the half-mile marker in :57.3 as Denis St Pierre kept Boogie Panic on the outside and had moved into second place.
By the backstretch, Boogie Panic had cleared to the lead and then started to open up on the field. He led by five lengths at the three-quarters in 1:26.1 and then poured it on, winning by seven open lengths at the wire in 1:57.1. Bemmol Kalie (Raymond Vachon) was second with Anamazingdream Esa (Mario Charron) third.
Having raced his early career only at the Hippodrome 3R for trainer Francis Richard, Boogie Panic paid $2.40 to win. The son of Major In Art was bred and is owned by Brian Paquet of Quebec, Que.
The Hippodrome 3R oval was in perfect form from the start of the racing card as two-year-old trotting colt William Star and driver Sylvain Lacaille missed tying the track record for colt trotters by one-fifth of a second in 2:01.4. The win was the second in three lifetime starts for the son of Windsong Espoir, who is trained and co-owned by Yves Ringuet.
Then in the ninth race pace, track record holder Hall Bro and driver Stephane Brosseau romped as they led from start to finish and won by nine and one-half lengths in 1:54.2 for trainer Antonio Valente. The win was the seventh this year for the three-year-old gelding by Blissful Hall, who paid just $2.40 to win.
