Breeders Crown officials today announced that the connections of 169 horses have entered their charges to contest the Breeders Crown, which will be kicking off with eliminations Friday, October 1 and Saturday, October 2 at Pocono Downs in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania
.
Three-year-old trotting colts Muscle Massive and Lucky Chucky will square off for divisional honours, and Little Brown Jug winner Rock N Roll Heaven will look to further his dominance of the sophomore pacing colt division when the entrants for the $6 million finals of the Breeders Crown will go to post beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9.
There will be a total of 11 eliminations worth $25,000 each for all two-year-old divisions on Friday, October 1.
Three sophomore elims will be raced on Saturday, October 2. The three-year-old colt trot, which drew nine, the maximum number that can score on the gate at Pocono, will advance directly to the $500,000 final.
The four open events will only need one elimination, which will be raced on Saturday as well. The $300,000 Mare Pace drew 10 entrants. Dreamfair Eternal took the bye, which means nine mares will race for eight remaining spots on the gate for the final.
The $500,000 Breeders Crown Open Pace, which drew eight, will go directly to the final, as will the $600,000 Open Trot with nine entrants. A compact field of seven trotting mares will contest the $250,000 Mare Trot.
The first four finishers from each elimination, plus the fifth-place finisher with the most seasonal earnings, will advance to the final. Elimination winners may pick their post position.
Complete elimination and final fields will be available when byes and elimination draws are finalized. The Breeders Crown Three-Year-Old Colt Trot and Pace will be drawn at press conference at Pocono on Tuesday, October 5.
