Prairie Rocknroll overcame his outside post seven to drop and pop in the Saturday, Sept. 26 conditioned feature pace at Saratoga Casino Hotel.
The Kyle Spagnola trainee spent most of his summer competing in the Joe Gerrity Jr. Memorial Invitational races. Following a pair of tries in the Open Pace earlier this month, he dropped down to the conditioned ranks on Saturday in the $20,423 feature.
Prairie Rocknroll’s regular driver Billy Dobson blasted the five-year-old A Rocknroll Dance-Stonebridge Luna gelding off the car and landed on the lead. The pacesetter put up panels of :28, :57 and 1:24.4 and flew clear by 6-1/4 lengths to complete the victory in 1:52.4. Night Hunter (Jacob Cutting) charged to get up for place over Mayweather Hanover (Jay Randall).
Prairie Rocknroll, a two-time Saratoga Open winner this year, is seven-for-19 on the season and 18-for-74 lifetime. He returned $3.36 as the 3-5 choice.
Live racing continues on Sunday at Saratoga, where there will be a $1,550 carryover in the early Pick Five pool. The Pick Five begins in the matinee’s first race, which is set for noon.
