Open trotter New Legacy returns to action on Thursday evening (Sept. 28) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
New Legacy headlines the featured $3,100 Open Trot on the Thursday evening card that gets underway at 6 p.m.
The Open Trot class is race seven with New Legacy handicapped to the outside in the field of six for owners Matt and David Burke and Don MacNeill Jr. The five-year-old son of Father Patrick now hangs his harness under the care of Gordie Ford with former regular driver Adam Merner back in the seat. Merner and New Legacy have teamed up for a plethora of Open Trot victories as well as the $7,500 Andrew Perry Invitational Trot in July at Red Shores Summerside. Jessiejesorjessica was the last to defeat New Legacy and has post five on Thursday evening from the Jennifer Doyle barn with David Dowling in the seat.
Also in the Open Trot field are Tequila Tuesday (Myles Heffernan Sr.), Labero (Gilles Barrieau), Incredible Two (Kenny Arsenault) and Striking Pride (Jason Hughes).
The "Post Time Picks" like New Legacy to prevail: “New Legacy has put together an excellent year and those 12 wins hop off the page. He’s also on the outside looking in but been here before so he’ll have a big say before it’s all said and done.”
Race five of the nine-dash card is the Town Of Stratford Pace with Alejandra Hanover favoured from post two for trainer/driver Hughes and owners Tommy Collings, Macie MacPhee and Courney MacLean. The three-year-old Stay Hungry filly rides a two-race win streak into the event with four wins so far in her sophomore year. Her main foes are slated as I Can Do It (Dowling) off the rail and Catchafewrays (Heffernan) from post three.
