Although he was sent off as the public's 3-1 third choice, Hughgetthecredit raced like the chalk on Sunday (Sept. 27) at Inverness Raceway.
The Lewis MacDonell-trained and driven gelding was an overwhelming victor in 1:57.4 during the track's featured $1,250 Winners-Over Pace and returned an attractive $8.80 win mutuel to those that opted to back him.
Hughgetthecredit took to the track for Race 7 and lined up in Post 5 for the featured tilt. MacDonell took a catious approach early, as he and the brown son of Up The Credit got away conservatively and sat fifth, almost seven lengths in arrears, at the :29.2 quarter.
MacDonell launched an attack on the front end in the second panel of the dash, and the duo found themselves overland and in front by the time the half-mile clock flashed to life in 1:00.
After assuming the lead, MacDonell and Hughgetthecredit went on to pace three quarters in 1:28.1. The pair won easily from there, as they expanded their lead in the final quarter and nailed the wire in 1:57.4. Their margin of victory was nine and one quarter lengths.
Brookdale Buster (who was driven by Andrew MacLean) had initially finished second, but was placed back to third due to interference. Docs Ronhenry, who had initially finished third for pilot Leander Beaton, was placed second by the judges.
Hughgetthecredit has now won five of his 15 starts this season and has banked $15,914 to this point in 2020. In terms of his career, Hughgetthecredit has now won 11 of 63 starts and $89,258 in purses.
Mark MacDonell of Dundas, Ontario purchased Hughgetthecredit earlier this month (Sept. 5).
