Sylvain Filion and Bob McClure celebrated four-win performances Tuesday evening, with Filion manufacturing his profitable night at Mohawk Racetrack while McClure mastered the art of winning at Flamboro Downs.
Filion got the ball rolling in Race 3 with Stonebridge Sundae, who front-stepped to a 1:54.1 victory for trainer Marcel Barrieau. The tandem of Filion and Luc Blais clicked in the very next race with Migrate Blue Chip, who won as he pleased in 1:53.2.
Filion and trainer Rob Fellows joined forces to win Race 6 with the maiden-breaking Lucky Player in 1:56.1, and the multiple O’Brien Award-winning reinsman then capped off the card winning Race 10 with the Kevin McMaster-trained Pylater in a career-best clocking of 1:54.1.
The career winner of 8,296 races is quickly closing in on $99 million in lifetime earnings. He’s also on the verge of surpassing $6 million in earnings in 2016.
Bob McClure failed to find his way to victory lane in the first three races at Flamboro Downs, but he did his fair share of winning from that point on.
He prevailed in Race 4 with the Tim Jacobson-trained Deucette in 1:57.3 and came right back to capture Race 5 with race favourite Miss Brandi K. The David O’Brien pupil stopped the teletimer in 1:56.1.
He later guided another favourite, Maxim Seelster, to a 1:56.1 triumph in Race 8 for trainer Rene Bourassa before finishing off the 10-race card with a blowout victory behind LMC Marshmellow. The Kyle Reibeling pupil won by nearly four lengths in 1:57.3.
McClure has piled up a career-best 375 wins so far this season – 35 more than he racked up in all of his 2015 campaign, and he’s on the verge of celebrating a personal best for single season earnings. He finished 2015 with just over $2.1 million in earnings, and he’s on the verge of surpassing that total thanks to this year’s purse haul of $2,090,896.
