Kawartha Hosts Second Memorial Night

It was another emotional evening at Kawartha Downs on Saturday night as the track hosted its second Memorial Night.

The Memorial Night was an opportunity for the track, fans and family members to honour and celebrate the lives of those people and horses who contributed to the history of Kawartha Downs but are no longer with us.

Kawartha Downs paid tribute to many well known and respected horse people: Ivan Johnson, Roger Hie, Judy Brown, Brenna Seeley, Guy LaRush, Stan Brown, James McIntyre and John Fry, as well as two outstanding trotters, Billyjojimbob and Mopey Corey.

On the track, Tony Kerwood scored a hat trick while Gord Brown notched a pair of winners, as did trainer John MacMillan.

Racing returns to the Fraserville, Ont. oval at 7 p.m. next Saturday night, the beginning of Kawartha Downs' two week ‘Kawartha Cares’ event. Fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the local food bank. Each person who brings a contribution will receive a $2 betting voucher.
