Trainer/driver Rod Therres' two-year-old Sportswriter filly Millbanks Writer was a repeat winner in the Betty Millbank Breeders Stakes early Friday night at Fraser Downs.
The Surrey, B.C. track's Friday night card opened with the $7,500 second leg of the B.C. Breeders Stakes for freshman fillies and Millbanks Writer went wire-to-wire from post six. She lowered her lifetime mark by one full second to 1:59.1 while racing over an off track for the second straight week. She's now two-for-three in her young career.
Millbanks Writer paid $4.60 to win as the second choice in the wagering. Even-money favourite Fast Lane Elektra and Kevin Anderson were the runner-ups to Millbanks Writer once again and followed one and a half lengths behind in second while Epic Era and Jim Marino finished six lengths back in third.
Therres shares ownership of the winning filly with Vancouver's Veikko Pajunen.
Friday's 12-dash card was dominated by Marino as he won half of the evening's races.
