If you're one of the people who can recall an old standardbred racehorse using the same name as the horse that upset heavily favoured Flak Jacket during stakes action last week at Evergreen Park in Grande Prairie, you're not alone.
That name was chosen by design by Meridian Farms' Bill Andrew as a sign of respect to the 1961 Gold Cup & Saucer winner of the same name.
"I've probably been more a race fan than anything over the years and certainly remember looking over the fence at the CDP, Summerside, Truro, Sackville Downs, Fredericton and the Cape Breton Turf Club," Andrew tells the Daily Herald Tribune. "My dad, who passed away last year, was also a huge fan of harness racing so I thought, a few years ago, that it would be neat to bring back some of the old Maritime names."
