Slick Tony and Transitioning Joy were prevailing favourites in the second round of $20,000 divisions in Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund stakes action for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings Monday at Harrington Raceway.
George Leager's Slick Tony ($2.10, Russell Foster) was a 1:54.3 winner in the first division over America First and Burn Brighter. The No Spin Zone colt recorded a new lifetime best in his fifth career win for owner/trainer Leager.
Joy and George Teague's Transitioning Joy ($2.40, Montrell Teague) completed a sweep of his eliminations with a 1:54.3 blowout win over Evolution Tour and Fulla Nitro. It was the third straight win in as many starts for the unbeaten Barber Pole colt and trainer Clyde Francis.
The $100,000 final DSBF events for two-year-old pacers and trotters will be contested on October 4.
In the $17,500 Open Pace, the overnight feature on the 12-race program, Bruce Kennedy and Tri County Stable's Wakizashi Hanover ($3.40, Tim Tetrick) was a 1:51.1 winner over Soto and Major Uptrend for trainer Jim King, Jr.
