Lady Gulf Tops Heartland Standardbred Sale

Lady Gulf topped the 16th annual Heartland Standardbred Sale on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at the Minnesota Equestrian Center in Winona, Minnesota.

Selling as Hip 119, Lady Gulf was purchased by Jeff Fought for $68,493 ($50,000 USD), reportedly tying Moonlit Night for the record as the highest priced Standardbred yearling sold at auction in the state of Minnesota. Consigned by Darin Miller , the filly is a daughter of first-crop sire Gulf Shores and the first foal out of the Kenneth J mare KJs Foxy Lady, who won 61 races and earned more than $440,000 with a mark of 1:51.2h taken at Northfield Park at the age of nine.

Midnight Photo, selling Hip 114, was among the top sellers garnering a bid of $48,630 ($35,500 USD) from Richard Huffman. Consigned by Dennis Bontrager, the World At War Deo gelding is the fourth foal out of Imapixieatmidnight, a half-sister to 2025 Minnesota older trotting mare champion Baby Flash.

Soundofatrumpet, selling as Hip 133 from the CJ Christianson consignment, rounded out the top three highest priced yearlings of the sale with a price tag of $43,836 ($32,000 USD). Maria Alvarez purchased the grey Three Of Clubs-Milky Way Hanover colt, who is from the family of $4 million earner Wiggle It Jiggleit.
