Driver Samuel Fillion and trainer Tommy Riley teamed up for one more victory on Saturday evening (Sept. 23) to put the finishing touches on their 2023 Kawartha Downs meet titles.

Honoured last weekend as leading driver and trainer of the meet, Fillion and Riley added a win with three-year-old pacing filly Just Shocking in the sixth race on Kawartha's season finale. There were no surprises here as the popular Heston Blue Chip filly led at every call in a career-best 1:58.1 victory for owner Annie Cox of Odessa, Ont. A two-time winner, she returned $4.10 at the betting windows.

Fillion finished the season with 36 victories to lead all drivers at the Fraserville, Ont. oval this year. With three driving wins on closing night, Nick Boyd matched Reg Gassien's 21-win count to tie for second-place in the standings.

Riley sent out 21 winners from his stable to top the trainer standings with a nine-win lead over Isaac Waxman. With back-to-back wins early Saturday night, Francis Guillemette pushed his win total to seven and tied Doug Hie and Emily Leak for third on the local leaderboard.
