Even at the ripe old age of 13, classy veteran Cool Rock still has the desire to win races.

The son of Rocknroll Hanover-Southwind Sundew, who is a little more than a year away from being forced into mandatory retirement from racing, leaned on his back class to win a claiming assignment Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park for driver Jody Jamieson and owner/trainer Josh McKibbin.

Known for his patented late rushes, Cool Rock sat sixth for the first three quarters of the contest before uncorking a :27.1 closing quarter which was enough to earn him the win by a half-length margin over Shadow Me Themoney in 1:54.2. Monty Mono was third.

Cool Rock, who is owned by McKibbin, improved his 2021 record to 6-3-1 from 16 starts with the win. It was the 43rd lifetime score for the career winner of $643,623.
