San Pail Doubles Up In Open Action

New millionaire San Pail added another $25,000 to his bankroll after winning the featured Open Trot Thursday night at Mohawk Racetrack

Randy Waples worked out the winning trip, which saw the Maple Leaf Trot champion leave from the outside Post 9 and clear the lead past the :27.3 opening quarter. The 8-5 second choice stroll leisurely to the half in :57, then bypassed three-quarters in 1:26.1. San Pail used a :27.1 final frame to seal the deal and stop the clock in 1:53.2, winning for the 21st time in his career.

Favourite Slave Dream (Sylvain Filion) journeyed first-over to finish a length and three-quarters behind in second while Define The World (Paul MacDonell) reached up to grab third.

Rod Hughes trains the winning five-year-old gelded son of San Pellegrino-Village Beauty for owner and breeder Glenn Van Camp of Port Perry, Ont. San Pail has prevailed in half of his 22 starts this season earning $705,250 in purses.

The win was one of three on the 11-race for Waples.
