Two racetracks in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia will play host to Atlantic Sires Stakes harness racing action this

weekend.

The weekend events are especially important, as they are the last chances this season for participants to earn points to secure a spot in the prestigious Atlantic Breeders Crown. This year’s Atlantic Breeders Crown Weekend of Champions will take place at the Charlottetown Driving Park on October 10 and 11.

This Saturday, the two-year-old pacing colts will roll into Northside Downs for some exciting racing action. Two 'A' divisions will each go for a purse pool of $9,720. First-race post time at the North Sydney oval on Saturday is 1:30 p.m.

Two-year-old pacing colt Allbentouttashape, owned by the Dooley Boys Racing Stable of Halifax, NS, is leading the pack in the 'A' division. The top eight point-getters will compete in the Championship Final and the next eight will race in the consolation event.

Meanwhile, Inverness Raceway will host the three-year-old pacing fillies on Sunday. This is also the final opportunity this season for the performers in the division to earn points. There will be two 'A' divisions going for a substantial purse pool of $10,020 each and one 'B' division will go for $2,500.

Currently, Southview Spirit is leading in points in this division. The three-year-old pacer is owned by Elwood Lawton of Stratford, PEI, and Arleen Harris of Cornwall, PEI.

The Inverness Raceway Invitational will also take place on Sunday, and will go for a purse of $7,500. Canadian Idol finalist Mitch MacDonald will also be on hand to sing the National Anthem and sign autographs during the race card. First-race post time in Inverness on Sunday is 1:30 p.m.

Atlantic Sires Stakes racing action will continue October 3 at Northside Downs, when the two-year-old pacing fillies have their last chance to earn points towards the Atlantic Breeders Crown. Currently, the two year-old performer, J J Solara is the top point-getter in this division. The filly is owned by Morah Kerr of Greenfield, NS, and Phonsie MacEachern of Port Hood, NS.
