Fresh off a lifetime-best performance a week ago, Safe Conduct continued his winning form on Monday evening, Sept. 23 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, winning the featured $28,000 conditioned trot.
Driver Chris Christoforou left the gate from post three in the field of seven with the Camilla Christoforou student. Gigondas (Doug McNair) was early to the punch and took the lead while Safe Conduct found a place on the rail in third just before the quarter in :27. Quebec Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) took command after the opening panel and Christoforou had Safe Conduct out on the move tracking in second. He cleared after the :55.4 half and started to separate himself from the rest of the field. After the three-quarters in 1:24.3, Safe Conduct was safe for home with no one able to catch him. He cleared the wire 2-1/4 lengths the best in 1:52.3. Quebec Hanover finished second with Looks Like Moni (James MacDonald) third.
A winner of $380,920 in career earnings, Safe Conduct has a lifetime record of 8-7-7 in 36 starts with two of those wins earned this season from nine starts. Irvann Holdings Inc. and Charalambos Christoforou co-own the five-year-old gelded son of Archangel out of the Muscle Hill mare Safekeeing. Safe Conduct took his lifetime mark of 1:51.3 at Mohawk last week.
Going off as the even-money favourite, Safe Conduct returned $4 to win.
