Undefeated Windemere Skye Scores In Atlantic Sires Stakes

Windemere Skye extended her perfect career record to eight as the Atlantic Sires Stakes (ATSS) for two-year-old pacers was front-and-centre on Sunday, Sept. 21 at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

Drawing post eight in the first $20,020 ATSS A division for fillies, Windemere Skye ($2.40) moved smartly to the lead past the quarter in :28, laid down :58 and 1:28.1 middle fractions, and widened her advantage with every stride to a 1:56.3 score for driver Marc Campbell and trainer Earl Watts. She reached home 6-1/2 lengths ahead of Bakers Dozen (Paul Langille), with Elm Grove Uncannie (Ken Murphy) completing the ticket.

Windemere Skye is undefeated in eight starts and has now earned $60,814 for owners Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I. and Matt Burke of Stratford, P.E.I.

The companion $20,020 filly split in Race 13 went to Beach Jewels ($4.60), who cut fractions of :28.4, :59.2, and 1:28.4 and prevailed by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:58.2 as part of a four-bagger for driver Gilles Barrieau. Going For Blood (Kenny Arsenault) and Exhilarating (Darryl MacLean) were second and third, respectively. The winning Arthur Blue Chip-Preakness filly, owned by Reg MacPherson of Stratford, improved her record to three-for-nine with $24,101 in the bank for trainer Kevin MacLean.

The pair of $17,740 two-year-old-colt A divisions were equally sharp.

Zero Two Sixty ($2.50) prevailed in the second split for his third straight victory. He sat the pocket behind Sporty Anthony (Murphy) through :27.4, :57.4, and 1:26.4 splits before powering past him by 2-1/2 lengths for a crisp 1:57.1 score. Barrieau piloted the gelding for trainer Sifroi Melanson and owner Ultimate Stable of Greater Lakeburn, N.B. Sporty Anthony (Murphy) was second, followed by Tiziano (Clare MacDonald). The win was the fifth in 11 starts for Zero Two Sixty, a son of Tobago Cays-J J Mistress, who has now earned $40,019.

In the first A division, Woodmere Kobe ($8.20) was fourth through :30.1 and 1:02 early splits, came first-up to three-quarters in 1:31.4, and he gamely surged late to nail Fire And Blood (Mike Downey) by a half-length in 2:00 for trainer-driver Kenny Arsenault. Darbies Fancy (Adam Merner) completed the triactor. The winner, a son of Tobago Cays-Princess Rusty, is two-for-five with $27,308 in bankroll for owners Peter Smith of Stratford and Gerald Morrissey of Charlottetown, P.E.I. 

The $6,000 B division tilts for fillies went to Isle Mach Da Money ($2.20) in 2:01.1 for trainer-driver Barrieau and Howmac Fancy ($5.10), who delivered in 1:59.4 for driver Paul Langille and trainer Kyle Williams.

In B-division colt action, St Patricks Morn ($4.70) was all class in 1:59.4 for driver Ken Murphy and trainer Alan MacDonald, Streakantonio ($2.20) controlled and closed the deal in 1:58 for Barrieau and trainer Ron Matheson, and Real Fancy Pants ($10.20) fronted them all in 2:02.2 for Jason Hughes and trainer Ashley Gamester.

Away from the stakes, Hunger Pangs ($7.80) set the table in the Keith Campbell Memorial in Race 1 with Corey MacPherson guiding the veteran to a 1:57.1 score for trainer Blaine McKenna.
