Trainer Michael Campbell and driver Brandon Campbell stole the show Tuesday (Sept. 22) at Century Downs, each winning in the featured events along with several other races on the 12-race card.
Brandon Campbell took the $9,000 Open Pace in gate-to-wire fashion with his pupil Tiempo Hanover. The six-year-old Western Ideal gelding strolled on the point through fractions of :27.1, :55.4 and 1:23 in progress to a 1:52 victory over Crackle N Burn closing for second and pocket-sitter Retros Mystery settling for third. Dana Shore, Peter Chanak and Jodi Loftus own the $5.80 winner who gave Campbell one of his three training victories and one of his five driving victories.
Campbell collected a pair of wins with his other trainees. He scored with Appellate ($25.20) and Ima Momas Boy ($4.60), and also steered two of Michael Campbell’s four winners on the day; Moosette ($2.40) and Snap Test ($5.20).
With Hotpieceoface ($11.90) later completing Michael’s grand slam, Mrs Suhwiggins scored a wire-to-wire win for Campbell in the $9,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace. Driver Kelly Hoerdt hustled the four-year-old Custard The Dragon mare to the top from post 8 before a :28.3 first quarter and then parked 8-5 favourite Scardy Cat through middle splits of :59.2 and 1:27.1. Mrs Suhwiggins strode from there to a one-and-a-half length win over Maid In Albert kicking off cover for second. Lady Neigh Neigh rallied for third. The $8.90 winner competes for J J J Racing Stables.
