Harper Blue Chip took over sole possession of the top spot in the OSS standings for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings thanks to his OSS Gold Series victory Monday night at Mohawk Racetrack.
The Mark Steacy-trained son of Majestic Son-Winning Jonlin went coast-to-coast in his $105,000 division, stopping the teletimer in 1:55.3 for driver Sylvain Filion. Harper Blue Chip hustled to the top from Post 6 and led the field through fractions of :27.2, :56.3 and 1:25.4 before stepping home in :29.4 en route to the win. Keystone Trevor came on strong to finish second, with British Steel grabbed the show dough.
It was the fourth win of the year – and the ninth to date – for the career winner of $678,825. The colt is owned by Landmark 6 Racing Stable, David McDonald, David Reid and George Judson.
See The Wind captured his $105,000 division in a career-best clocking of 1:54.2 for driver James MacDonald and trainer Chris Beaver. The son of Deweycheatumnhowe-Platinum Power was treated to a two-hole trip behind race favourite Muscle Matters, who threw down fractions of :27.1, :57.2 and 1:26. See The Wind popped the pocket in the lane and used a :28-second closing quarter to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Muscle Matters in 1:54.2. Sheer Flex was third.
Sent off at odds of 6-1, See The Wind won for the second time in 12 starts this season for Beaver and his partners, Synerco Ventures Inc and Wilbur Lang. The lion’s share of the loot lifted See The Wind’s cash stash to $210,862.
