According to a report on The Lacombe Globe, there will not be any horse racing for the rest of the year

at Alberta Downs.

Owner Robert Allen is frustrated that racing will not be resuming this October. The article states that some construction might resume at some point this fall.

Allen cites the lack of a grandstands and permits as the culprit for the decision.

“It’s frustrating,” Allen was quoted as saying. “Racing officials have been here and looked at the track but I’ve been told I wouldn’t get races for October because there’s no grandstand.

“And we’re still waiting on permits from Alberta Environment.”

Allen went on to say: "I haven’t talked to anyone who doesn’t want this track here. There’s a lot of interest in horse racing in the local area and throughout the province. I’m very much looking forward to getting going next year."
