Track Record Lowered At Kawartha

A nine-year-old track record was snapped Saturday, Sept. 21 at Kawartha Downs when Allerage Stargazer held on to win in 1:55.3.

That time knocked a tick off the former standard set in 2010 by Kor Mel Lil Lady and then tied the following month by Mystical Starlight.

Reg Gassien, currently the leading driver at the Fraserville oval, was up behind the four-year-old daughter of Angus Hall for the front end victory where they set the tempo of :29, :57.3 and 1:26.1 and managed to hold off Mystery Bet with Nick Boyd at the controls to win by a head. Janes Angel and Doug Hie claimed the show prize.

Tommy Riley trains Allerage Stargazer for his wife Amanda Riley, Brett Riley and Steve McGill. They claimed Stargazer earlier this year at Flamboro and she has rewarded them with six victories to date at their home track of Kawartha. Tonight’s mile was a new life best for the mare who is closing in on $100,000 in lifetime earnings.
