Yanotherhos and Sweet Like Candy won a pair of $7,500 eliminations for the B.C. Sales Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies, which was named in honour of standardbred owner Sharon Renkers who passed away last October.
Yanotherhos and driver Brad Watt opened the Friday night card with a career-best 1:58 victory over the race favourite for trainer Richard Lancaster and owner Ray Soh of Delta, B.C.
Watt worked out a two-hole trip aboard the Allamerican Cobalt-Odds On Carmen filly for the fourth consecutive start. Yanotherhos followed the streaking Hurts So Bad (Bill Davis) through fractions of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:28.3 before pulling the pocket and wearing her down for the half-length triumph. The 7-2 second choice paid $9.50 to win. Regal Heir (James Burke) finished over two lengths behind in third.
The win was the first of the current meet and second this year for Yanotherhos. She's earned top three finishes in half of her 14 sophomore starts to add $32,180 in purses to her bankroll.
In the following race, favourite Sweet Like Candy delivered on her pari-mutuel promise from the front-end with a career-best 1:55.3 victory with Serge Masse in the sulky for conditioner Shelly Arsenault and owner Roger McDow of Las Vegas, Nevada.
After leaving from post three, the American Ideal-Ali Badali filly carved out fractions of :27.4, :58.1 and 1:26.4 en route to the four and three-quarter length victory, returning $2.40 to her backers. Pocket-sitter Im Tu Die For (Glenn White) was second-best and Shadow Time (Bill Davis) finished third.
Sweet Like Candy also earned her first win of the meet, but fifth this year. The Penny Bath and Marion Young Memorial champion earlier this year, Sweet Like Candy has hit the board in 12 of her 17 sophomore starts for seasonal earnings of $38,522.
The $50,000 final of the Sharon Renkers Memorial will take place next weekend at Fraser Downs.
In Open action, Bill Davis trainees I Hear Voices and Full Circle King finished 1-2 in a photo finish in this week's $12,500 event. The former nipped the latter at the wire in a career-best 1:53.3. James Burke drove J J J Stables' winning four-year-old homebred, who went over the $100,000 earnings mark. The victory was part of a training triple for Davis through the first eight races on the card.
