Long Ago made it three-for-three in his Wednesday night leg of Sudbury Downs’ Champions Trot Series, which is for non-winners of $75,000 as of Wednesday, August 24.

With the inside advantage in the first of two $15,000 third leg divisions, Long Ago and driver Bruce Richardson took control of the field and romped to a six length score in 2:01.2 over the sloppy track, which was rated three second slow. Imminent Response and Dash Car finished well back in second and third.

Long Ago paid $4.30 to win as the bettor’s choice. The six-year-old son of Duke Of York-Hope Floats is owned by trainer John Holding of Campbellville, Ont. and Bryan Montgomery of Fergus, Ont.

The bay gelding matched Zorgwijk Fortunate's track record for older male trotters with his 1:57.4 winning performance in the opening leg of the series and then followed up that performance with a 1:59.3 triumph in the second leg last week. He now has nine wins in 29 starts and over $80,000 in earnings on his record this year.

Driven by Pat Rouleau, Ill Tell You What kept first over challenger Victors Valiant at bay while on the front end and rolled away to a three and a quarter length victory in 2:03.4, ending his rival’s chances at a series sweep. Julians Jewel was third.

Ill Tell You What paid $8.10 to win as the 3-1 second choice. Debra Clayton of Millington, Michigan owns and trains the six-year-old Lockkeeper-Sweet Grammie gelding, who was a runner-up in the first leg of the series to Kashas Kid and won his division in round two by four and a half lengths in 2:01.4. He earned his sixth win of the season tonight in 19 starts while lifting her earnings to over $35,000.
