A victory in the Preferred Trot is something that had eluded Only For Justice until he manufactured a 15-1 upset in Monday’s edition of the top class offered for trotters at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The Ontario Sires Stakes graduate got away third in Monday’s main event for driver Chris Christoforou, who watched Grandma Heidi sliced out fractions of :26.4, :56.4 and 1:24.4. Threefiftytwo applied first-over pressure on the leader around the final turn, and race favourite Combs Hanover was tracking that one’s cover from second over.
Only For Justice, in the meantime, was shuffled back to fifth in the late going before shaking loose. He used a :27.1 final frame to win by three-quarters of a length over Combs Hanover in 1:52.3. Dream Nation rallied from last to finish third in the field of seven.
It was a 15-1 upset for the five-year-old son of Justice Hall-Intense America who is a homebred owned by Ecurie Gaetan Bono Inc of Laval, QC. The gelding hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Dany Fontaine. The win was the trotter’s fourth of the season and the 13th of his career. He’s banked $$28,764 to date.
