Sheenas Boy Sets Yonkers Track Record

Sometimes, there’s an unexpected daily double, as in a track record and glorious photographic evidence to accentuate it.

Thursday night (Sept. 19), the three-year-old trotting gelding Sheenas Boy (George Brennan, $2.50) ‘ran away and hid’ in 1:54.4, setting a Yonkers Raceway track standard for the weight class.

The five-length romp in the $16,000, fourth race so inspired ‘Sheena’ that the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, as the Mike Lizzi photo attests.

Sheenas Boy, a gelded son of Trixton, is trained by Ake Svanstedt for co-owners S R F Stable and Knuttson Trotting. The win was his fourth in a dozen seasonal starts.

In his previous start, Sheenas Boy was sitting a loose Yonkers Trot pocket to runaway Gimpanzee before breaking, crossing the line fourth but placed sixth while race-timed in 1:54.4.

The previous local standard for three-year-old trotting geldings was 1:55, set by Crazy About Pat (Eric Goodell) in September of 2013.
