Jimmer continued his breakout season on Sunday afternoon at Saratoga Casino and Raceway. The Don Sherman-trained trotter scored a wire-to-wire win in the $18,000 Open Trot on a beautiful afternoon in the Spa City.
Jimmer, one of the top trotters at Saratoga this season, won for the eighth time in 2015 and did so in career-best fashion. Phil Fluet piloted the race’s 7-5 favourite to victory in 1:54.1, a time that is just a fifth of a second off the track record for trotters. Longshot Cash Poor (Jim Devaux) fought gamely first over and was the runner-up while Gaelic And Garlic (Mark Beckwith) earned the show spot.
It was the third Open score this season for Jimmer, who was claimed this spring by Sherman, last year’s Up-And-Coming Trainer at the Spa.
The Equinox Bi gelding led an exacta that returned $33 and a triple that came back $91.50.
