Trainer Jackie Matheson completed a sweep of the top two spots in Sunday's $6,000 Invitational Pace at Inverness Raceway as Clic K converted off a pocket trip behind D Gs Camme and won by three and a half lengths over his stablemate. The victory in the 10th race finale was Redmond Doucet's sixth winning drive of the day.
Clic K gave way to favourite D Gs Camme and Gilles Barrieau at the :28 first quarter mark and followed along through middle splits of :57 and 1:27.2 before sprinting by his barn buddy to steal the spotlight. The seven-year-old son of Shanghai Phil used a :28.3 final kicker to score the 1:56.1 victory over the "good" track. Big Surf recovered from an early break in stride and came from last to show.
Continuing his win streak that began early August in Ontario, Clic K has now won five races in a row. The chestnut gelding is owned by the Plo Stables of Donagh, P.E.I. He paid $11.10 to win as the 9-2 second choice on the betting board.
Doucet also won races two through six with Howmacs Angel ($13.50), his own trainee Rez Rampage ($4.80), Blackriver Nannie ($7.00), Island Reactor ($8.50), Jackson County ($2.50). His six wins moved him into second-place in the local driving standings ahead of Colin Kelly. He now has 23 wins this season and trails leader Alex Macquarrie, who picked up one victory on Sunday's card, by just two wins.
