Pacing gelding Bali etched his name in the record books at Saint-Esprit on Saturday with the fastest mile in the fair track's history.
The record mile came in the feature $2,000 Invitational Pace during the Saturday afternoon card. Driver Marie Claude Auger positioned Bali in the pocket from post six while Royal Kee Wee N (Dany Mainguy) blazed through panels of :26.1, :57 and 1:25.4. Auger was out from the rail at that third station to make a run at the leade, cleared that rival heading for home and opened up to a five-length lead at the line. The time of the mile was a swift 1:55, eclipsing the 1:56.1 mark of Cliff Drummond from 2013.
Auger trains six-year-old Bali (Dali - Belvekia) for Denise Auger of Trois-Rivieres, Que. and Emilie Auger of Welland, Ont. In 33 seasonal starts, Bali has banked $36,191 while amassing a summary of 6-6-7.
