It was just another night at the office for the ‘King’ of Island racing, as Marc Campbell captured both top events on Thursday evening (Sept. 19) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Campbell-trained and driven Freddie found the wire first in the $2,350 Open Trot after benefitting from some brisk early fractions supplied by Hop Up (Corey MacPherson). Hop Up struck the front and laid down splits of :28.4 and :58.2 before relinquishing the front to Star Photo (Jason Hughes) at the half-mile marker. Freddie then took a first-over assault from fourth on that leader and powered by in the stretch to win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:58.3 with Star Photo second and Hop Up third.
Freddie is owned by Three Wisemen Stable.
The $2,300 top pace of the evening was more of the same for Campbell, as he teamed up with Bettim Vicky to win in 1:57.4. Jeff Lilley co-owns and trains the daughter of Aahm Canadian Now for co-owners Blair MacLauchlan, Danny Purcell and Greg Goldberg. Innocent Kiss (Adam Merner) finished second, with Collective Wisdom (Gilles Barrieau) completing the $459.00 triactor.
Campbell’s other win came with Paythelinebluechip in 1:59.1 for trainer Jay Noye.
