Odds-on favourite Krispy Apple couldn’t possibly have had it any easier Friday night, winning Yonkers Raceway’s $48,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace.

An assigned eight-hole isn’t quite as difficult when none of the other seven inside of you leave. So, the millionairess made them pay, making a simple lead before coming out of the first turn for driver Jason Bartlett and strolling through subsections of :27.4, :55.4, 1:23.3 and 1:51. The margin, punctuated by a :27.2 kicker, was 3-1/2 lengths turning for home before ballooning to five lengths at the wire. The mile set a new track record for aged mares.

Sudoku (Jordan Stratton), chasing from a looser pocket, saved second, with Dune In Red (Mark MacDonald), Caribbean Rose N (Brian Sears) and Jonsie Jones (Tyler Buter) rounding out the payees.

For Krispy Apple, a seven-year-old daughter of Western Ideal co-owned by Bamond Racing and Joseph Davino and trainer by Jeffrey Bamond, Jr., it was her ninth win in 20 seasonal starts and it boosted her overall earnings to $1,509,576.
