Coral Sea Romps In ATSS Fair Division

Coral Sea romped to a 14-length victory, his first of the season, in a single $1,500 Atlantic Sires Stakes Fair division for three-year-old pacers on Sunday afternoon

at St John's Racing and Entertainment Centre.

Driver Walter Deering Jr. sent the son of Ss Sand Dollar-Secret Diedentity to the lead through a :31-second opening quarter. Once in control, Coral Sea maintained a two length lead through middle splits of 1:02.3 and 1:32.4 before opening up daylight on the field in the stretch. Coral Sea stopped the clock in 2:04. Farmers Gal finished second and Gabbys Littleangel was third.

Walter C. Deering of Shearstown, Nfld. trains and owns the bay colt, who was making his ninth start of the season. Coral Sea has now earned five wins in 18 lifetime starts.

Clifford Garland's six-year-old Grinfromeartoear gelding P H Tornado prevailed by five lengths in 2:01.1 over Machthemoment and Le Moras Big Guy in this week's $790 Preferred Handicap Pace for trainer-driver Scott MacRoberts. The win was his fourth this year and eighth in a row.

Scott Forward recorded a training triple on the nine-race card.
