Preferred Mares In Thursday Spotlight At Charlottetown

Published: September 18, 2024 09:01 pm EDT

Chelski and up-and-coming driver Damian MacLellan will take on the top mares at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park on Thursday evening.

The Thursday card starts off at 6 p.m., with Chelski drawing the inside post in the race 11, $3,850 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace.

Inverness, N.S. native Damian MacLellan has driven full-time this season at both Island tracks and will be entrusted with the driving duties aboard Chelski again this week at 4-1 morning line odds for owners Jeff and Robert Skinner of Nova Scotia. MacLellan currently sits 10th in the Red Shores Charlottetown driving standings and is in a tie with Gilles Barrieau for ninth at Red Shores Summerside. The Jennifer Doyle-trained Chelski and MacLellan have teamed up for two wins, a second and a third from their last four starts.

Pasta Momma rides a three-race win streak into the event from the outermost post five with Marc Campbell in the driver's seat for trainer Landon Campbell. The Red Shores Charlottetown track record holder is the morning line favourite.

Tobins Brownie (David Dowling) has post four after a runner-up finish to Pasta Momma last week. The Ashley Gamester-trained duo of Sugar Bowl (Mark Bradley) and Acefortyfourdome (Jason Hughes) have posts two and three, respectively.

The Post Time Picks will take the odds for Chelski to map out a winning trip: “Chelski has been knocking on the door in her past two starts and was less than a length away both times. Lands on the rail and it looks like she may be able to draft all the way and may even reach up and win.”

Race five is the Canadian Ski Patrol pace with Woodmere Rollily (Adam Merner) the top selection.

Redland Misspretty (Dowling) is the top choice in the race seven PIPSC Charlottetown SH Subgroup Health Professionals pace.
